One of my favourite things to do is to bake with the kids. I have a 4 and 5 year old and I feel that baking should be an important part of their lives and something we can all do together. We don’t tend to buy store bought goods and the kids take it for granted that most treats we have in the house have been made from scratch (and they have helped in making them).
Kids are always eager to learn new things and helping in the kitchen encourages them to try new foods and gain satisfaction, self confidence and a sense of achievement. In my short few years as a mum I have noticed that kids get excited about things when we as adults match that level of excitement. This encourages their interest in whatever you choose to do with them whether it’s baking or gardening. Also, having chickens as pets and growing an organic veggie garden adds to an understanding of where food comes from.
Something we have recently been doing is decorating biscuits, cupcakes, cakes with these edible ink writing pens from anycake (as shown below).
The writing pens are absolutely easy for little hands to use and get creative with, all made from edible food colours. The pens allow them to use their imaginations and also their new writing skills.
My kids enjoyed decorating some cupcakes for their little friends.
My son’s 4th birthday cake was decorated using these pens and it’s great to get the kids involved in the decorating process.
Party favours were also decorated in the same way.
I much prefer a home baked cookie as a take home treat!
So, why don’t you have a go baking with the kids this weekend? You know where to buy the pens from and the kids will absolutely love it!
