Kids parties seem to be getting bigger and bigger with fairies, petting zoos, jumping castles, face painting and even the guest list seems to be getting out of control. The older kids get, the easier it is to have something more intimate, structured and planned according to their interests like an art/craft party, book party, superhero party, pirate party, dress up party, pyjama party etc.
If you have a child who loves baking why don’t you throw them a baking party! Invite a handful of their friends and let the baking begin. Here are a few things to think about:
1. Invitations
Get them to write out invitations on recipe cards with a little drawing of a cupcake or you can use a cupcake stamp or sticker.
2. Decorations
Decorating the party area is easy with paper bunting and a tablecloth made with some baking inspired fabric cut to size and quickly machine hemmed or cut with pinking shears.
If you are feeling crafty, a pretty ruffle apron can be made following this tutorial for the birthday girl and one for each of her guests to wear and then take home as their party treat. Otherwise, packs of aprons & hats can be found here.
3. Party Food
Food for the party can be as simple as pancakes, cupcakes, chocolate crackles and ice cream; after all it is a party. Make pancakes just before guests arrive, ready for them to eat with maple syrup and berries.

Pink milk in little bottles with paper straws make a great drink.
5. Baking Activities
Get the guests to make Chocolate crackles when they arrive so they can be put in the fridge to set.

Cupcakes can be pre baked before guests arrive so they are ready to be decorated. Pretty icing kits are perfect but icing can also be put in zip lock bags and the corner snipped off.
Have some bowls of M&M’s, lollies, sprinkles, marshmallows, chocolate chips or anything colourful and edible ready to be used for decorations.
Guests can also decorate ice creams with the decorations:
All these activities will have the kids entertained for hours!
Just remember that it can be a relaxed baking party for 5 or 6 friends and as long as they are occupied, fed and entertained the kids will absolutely love it.
The best thing about a baking party is that after all that baking and decorating the guests get to take home their own creations, perfect!
Happy baking!
