Writing and creating e-books is a relatively easy way to make some money online. People are always after information and if you can create a document that answers one of their questions, then you are onto something.
Two of the questions I get asked as a blogger are how to create a media kit to send to PR reps and Brands, and how to get sponsored to attend a blogging event. I wrote two little guides about the steps I use when considering both.
You might have some great craft project tutorials that you want to share. Or you might have come up with 100 ways to decorate your home on the cheap. Or how to plan a stress-free children’s birthday party.
Do you have some blog posts that you could expand further on? Perhaps you blogged about how you save money when meal planning. You could consider using that as an idea for an e-book about how to make your dollar go further with some of the recipes you use.
Once you have an idea about what you would like to write about, follow these steps to create an e-book:
- Get your ideas down – either in Microsoft Word (which I use) or go old-school and write it all down in a notebook first. Note down the main topics you are going to write about and then build on each topic.
- Use photos – pretty photos make everything look so much nicer. Make sure they are relevant to your topic and the pictures are of good quality. No-one wants to look at blurry photos.
- Get someone to read your draft – it’s always a good idea to have a fresh pair of eyes look at your project. They might be able to pick up on spelling or grammar errors or may even suggest ways to make it better.
- Make it easy on the eye – try to avoid big clumps of text. I know that I tend to skim over large paragraphs. Try to split your content into smaller paragraphs and use sub headings.
- Design a template – this isn’t my forte so I asked a friend to create a basic template for me to use for my e-books so they all represent my brand. I have my blog logo displayed to add to my personal branding.
- Convert your ebook into a PDA file – this is the easiest way to convert your e-book so it can be read on computers, phones or ipads.
- Distribute your ebook – there are a number of ways to use e-books. You could sell them or you could use them as a way to get people to subscribe to your website or newsletter. I created a sidebar banner advertising my e-books on my blog.
Everyone has an e-book or two inside them. What do you know that you can share with others?
