Spread the love

When it comes to choosing a theme for your wedding, you can’t go wrong with vintage. It’s perfect for the true romantic and lovers of everything classic. Whether you’re aiming for a 20s great Gatsby feel, or a 40s screen goddess look, a vintage wedding will have your guests talking about it for years to come.

The Venue

If you want to go all out for your vintage wedding party, a historic or whimsical location will suit the theme best. Many couples choose old mansions with plenty of history, rustic country farmhouses, old world-y hotels, ballrooms and even museums! You can get creative with your venue, or if you prefer a more conservative place, that’s fine as well!

Use Plenty of Antiques

For an authentic vintage feel, decorate your wedding reception venue with interesting antique items. Visit vintage stores and hunt around for pieces that will spruce up your wedding décor. Scatter little vintage touches all over your reception area. The ideal colour palette for this theme is soft pastels, white, cream and peach. Delicate hand painted teacups, teapots and tins make wonderful holders for candles and flowers to place on tables. Also make use of lots of lace creations, which provide a lovely old timey touch. Doilies for example make lovely place mats. You could think about using crochet table cloths and crochet chair covers too. DIY décor can provide a creative touch too. Anything knitted or embroidered has a true vintage feel. Apart from these, old sheet music, post cards, pictures and magazine pages fit the theme perfectly. Feature them in your décor as place cards, table runners or framed collages.

Metals and Glass

As to metallic and glass elements, photo frames look great to display on tables and as points of interest. You could think about framing photos of your own family in these. Beautifully crafted vintage mirrors also make great décor items and you could use them to feature either table numbers or menus. Silver candlesticks also make perfect table centrepieces and will provide a romantic, old worldly vibe, especially when the lights are turned off.

Flowers

Floral patterns fit the vintage theme perfectly, so make use of anything with floral motifs. Also tell your florist that you want vintage themed flower arrangements or gold coast wedding flowers. A vintage bouquet will look like its straight out of a 19th century painting. Flowers suitable for this theme include pale pink or white roses, baby’s breath, hydrangeas and carnations. Make use of flowers liberally. Place them on tables, as arrangements around your venue, as bouquets and even in buttonholes.

Bridal Attire

As to the bride, lace gowns provide the most vintage look. Pair with a long cathedral veil and a flower crown if desired. Lace gloves and a vintage hairpiece will complete the look. For the bridesmaids, go with dresses inspired by the theme. 40s silhouettes and hairstyles, for example. Waistcoats or vests for the groom and groomsmen along with vintage accessories such as a pocket watch look fitting as well.

Finish off your vintage wedding reception with a beautiful wedding cake that encompasses the theme and a live band playing classical pieces or Jazz!
